So way back at the beginning of the year, I made a list of goals for 2022–the Ovelist–and one of the things that was on that list was that I wanted to start a new homebrew Space Marine chapter. I did one last year, which I liked quite a bit, called the Rock Badgers, and I was expecting to get to a new chapter until the fall but… I just can’t help myself. I have to paint Space Marines.
You may recall me saying that I’m not precious with my models, and I’m really not. The fact that I’m starting this new chapter is owed, in large part, to me selling some other models on eBay to be able to afford it. Also, it may interest you to know that the Sword Brethren I painted last week as the Tridents of Volodymyr have been repainted to match the new color scheme. As I said, I’m not precious with my models.
So I repainted them.
I haven’t yet come up with a name or a theme for the army, except that they started off looking a lot like Blood Angels (I have collected Blood Angels in the past) but then I amped up the orange and yellows and want them to be a little more lava and fire. Not sure what yet. Not sure if they’re a successor to the Blood Angels that just is really firey, or if they’re a successor to the Salamanders who come from a volcanic planet. The lore of this chapter has yet to come to me.
But in the last week I’ve painted three groups.
The first are five Reivers. I really like Reivers, mask and all. I still have five more Reivers to go.
Note: I haven’t yet created an army list of the chapter I’m building, just that I’m building a 2000 point army. I haven’t strategized yet. So for now it’s just basic troops.
Next are the Sword Brethren, who used to be the Tridents of Volodymyr. I think they look better in red, especially because I painted over the truly horrendous freehand work that I tried to do on their pauldrons. I think I’ve come to the realization that these guys are never going to be perfect, because I did such a poor job scraping off the Black Templars stuff. Still, they look okay, and I don’t know what role they’ll play in the army because they’re supposed to be Black Templars.

Finally, I have my Bladeguard Veterans. I have to say that, for my money, Bladeguard Veterans are my favorite Space Marine models in the whole line right now. I love the heraldry and I really love the shields, and it’s just so easy to make them look really good. So this army may end up with even more Bladeguard Veterans.

That’s it for this week. I did spend a fair amount of hobby time in assembly. Aside from the other five Reivers, I have a squad of ten Incursors and ten Assault Intercessors. So it’s plenty to keep me busy for a while. I can’t wait to see where this army goes and what lore I come up with them.
The Brotherhood of Fire. The Raining Fury. Molten Angels. I don’t know. We’ll workshop it.
