I’ve written before about the big hobby project that I’m working on. I had set a goal this year of building an Imperial Guard army, but the call of Xenos was too strong, and… my Imperial Guard army quickly became a converted Genestealer Cults army. For me, it’s the best of both worlds. I can take anything I want from either range, do some head swaps and some gear changes, and my noble Imperial Guard are corrupted by the brood lord and looking to do some sedition.
Well, that continued, and I’ve been painting up the remainder of the Genestealer Cults Combat Patrol (side note: I recently ranked the Genestealer Cults Combat Patrol to be the best Combat Patrol of the entire bunch, and that’s not just because I like the creepy little Abberants.) I combined it with the Cadia Stands box, and a Baneblade I’ve had hanging around for a while. And I’ve got a pretty good thing going. I need a Rogal Dorn Battle Tank then… I’m not sure where I want to go.
BUT: I came to a realization. The Genestealer Cults are all designed to be the dregs of humanity living at the bottom of the hive cities–and they’re miners. So…why not bring in the best hive city miners of all: the Necromunda Squats.
So I now have a squad of Squats painted up in the same color scheme as the rest of the Genestealer Cults. (Which, I forgot to mention, are Tallarn Raiders.)
I also got some Atalan Jackals, which are some of my favorite models in all of Warhammer 40k. They’re the only bike units that look like they could actually work in the real world, and that realism combined with the slightly abnormal Xenos foreheads is a little too much to resist.
But then. Then then then.
I’ve been painting my backlog of Horus Heresy Blood Angels, and I found myself with five Terminators–40k Terminators; I already painted my 30k Terminators. And I painted the first one up as a Blood Angel, and I just might start a new Blood Angel army?
I don’t know. I’ve had many Blood Angel armies over the years and I’ve never kept them, but I LOVE them, and I really want another one. A big one. A complete one.
The project painting every chapter of the Space Marines as a Kill Team just got me too excited for Space Marines and now I can’t leave them alone.
We’ll see. Right now it’s only five Terminators. Who knows where next week will take us.
