I have been looking for opportunities to expand my Horus Heresy Blood Angels, and this last couple weeks have been pretty good for that–Horus Heresy Blood Angels Hobby Streak Day 775*.
*Today is day 775, but I’ve been painting these over the last week or so.
Horus Heresy Blood Angels Praetor and Chaplain Consul
To start with, and the ones with the crappiest picture, are the Praetor and Chaplain Consul. I am a big time sucker for Horus Heresy Praetors, and an even bigger sucker for any Warhammer chaplains, so this seemed like a no brainer. The picture doesn’t do them much justice, but they turned out pretty good, and are a good addition to my Horus Heresy Blood Angels.
Horus Heresy Blood Angels Tartaros Terminators
I admit that I have yet to actually play a game of Horus Heresy because most standard games require such big armies, and mine is just… not that big. But I’m getting there because I love the rules and I love the models. I tend to have an easier time painting troops than painting tanks and there have been an unfortunately small number of troops choices for Horus Heresy. Yes, I know there are a lot of extra weapons options–which I have bought–but I’m crossing my fingers for Assault Marines, and not just an extra resin sprue of chainsword arms.
So, with the idea that I needed to expand my Horus Heresy troops, and knowing how much I loved the Cataphractii Terminators (I love them), it seemed a no-brainer impulse buy to get the Tartaros Terminators and… I don’t like to say this about my models, but I kinda sorta don’t like them? The Cataphracti had a lot of trim and tassles and just a look that was exciting, and these guys have very little frills other than two guys with leather tabbards, and the trim is stupid because it is on the lower half of the bulbous body–so you can’t see it most of the time. And, further, they’re just bulbous and edge highlighting doesn’t do much to accentuate anything. I don’t like them. Still, I painted them and added them to the force, and it’s nice to have some built-in heavy weapons, but they’re not going in the front of the display case.
Horus Heresy Blood Angels Leviathan Dreadnought
But the thing I loved painting this week was the Leviathan Dreadnought. This is the opposite situation: I was not in love with the Contemptor Dreadnought, but I really liked the look of this guy and knew I had to add him to my Horus Heresy Blood Angels. He painted up really well, and the assembly was just complex enough to be challenging without maddening. I am a little disappointed that there were so few modeling options for him (they gave him one foot that looked like it was taking a step, but other than that, the only real positioning was a 15 degree turning arc on the upper body and positioning of the arms.
But he turned out really well, and I’m proud to add him to my army.
But that’s all for Horus Heresy Blood Angels.
Warhammer 40k Blood Angels Bladeguard Veterans
In Warhammer 40k Blood Angels, I painted up some Bladeguard Veterans which are in my top five kits of all of the Warhammer 40k range. They just paint up so well, with just the perfect amount of over-decoration. And yes, I am indeed getting back into painting Warhammer 40k Blood Angels. I’ve pulled the trigger. I know that 10th Edition is coming soon, and that’s going to be a big expenditure, and so I knew I wanted to start collecting Space Marines again. And Blood Angels are and always have been my favorite.
(Yes, I know that Bladeguard Veterans should have gold helmets and not blue helmets, but I just love blue helmets on Blood Angels, so these guys are renegades or something.)
Anyway, not a bad couple of weeks.
And yes, I went back and did the math and I’m on Hobby Streak Day 775, which is bananas. Here’s to many more.
