I haven’t been posting my hobby streak much lately, but it’s still going on (or, at least, I’m still painting; I’m not posting pictures as I should.) But my current obsession is with the nastiest green faction, the Maggotkin of Nurgle. This started a long time ago (I truly believe that EVERY Warhammer painter dabbles in Nurgle once in a while just because they’re so fun to paint.) But I haven’t painted much until the last couple months, but I’ve been making up for it.
To start with, let’s get to the great grandaddy of them all, The Great Unclean One. This was one of my favorite models to paint, although it ended up a little more neon green than I would like it it. (It doesn’t look this neon in person, but I’m not a good enough photographer/photoshopper to get the colors correct.) Still, I really love all the pus and sore and rotting flesh. He’s a ton of fun.
I did get in some Plague Marines, though, because how could I not? I’ve been experimenting a lot with mixing basecoats of Contrast paints, so all of my Plague Marines are a little bit different in color–some greener and some more orange. I like them.
But my favorite of all, and I honestly think this is the best model I’ve ever painted (despite my poor photography skills) is the Glottkin. Yes, I know that he doesn’t really exist in the same world as the Plague Marines (or maybe he does–I don’t know), but I really am pleased as pus with how this guy turned out.
I think that there’s a failure here with the sculpt, and that’s that the Glottkin doesn’t have a good silhouette. Even looking right at him here it’s kind of hard to tell what is his head and what is a fold of skin. I realize that’s how Nurgle is, but I think that the Glottkin would be a much more popular model if he was just standing a little differently.
There is so much to like about this thing, and I don’t know where to start, except to say that he’s a mess of horns and teeth and sores and gore. He’s got three mouths (at least), and I haven’t counted all the bones coming out of him (and the skulls that are crammed inside the bones? It’s weird. Anyway, I’m really happy with him.
