So it’s a pretty big milestone for me, hitting day 800 of the Hobby Streak. That’s taking my hobby on trips–even across oceans. It’s hobbying on the same day as a huge car accident. Sure, all of those things are good excuses to pause the Hobby Streak, but I didn’t wanna pause the Hobby Streak. I wanted to keep it up, so I did.
The first model I painted this past several days was Captain-General Trajann Valoris, who I chose just as a test model. I’ve been thinking for a long time that I ought to paint Adeptus Custodes, but I never brought myself to do it–they just seemed so… gold. But then I saw some alternative paint schemes on Instagram, and I figured I’d take the plunge.
And I’m glad I did, because I loved everything about this Custodes. So much so that part of my hobby budget for May is being dedicated to a small dabble with more Adeptus Custodes. To be perfectly honest, one of the things I like about them is that they’re just so BIG. And for someone with glasses and shaky hands, big models completely fit the bill.
The next big thing that I got was the Seraphon Army Box. When it was revealed at Adepticon, I said that of all the things they were revealing, this was what I knew I was going to get. And it hasn’t disappointed.
I painted up five Sauruses to get my feet wet, and I think they turned out pretty well. I like the blue and red (you’ll notice my Adeptus Custodes also had blue and red. I like that combination.) And even though this picture doesn’t do it justice, I really like the weapons and the shields.
But that was nothing compared to the Raptadons which I absolutely love. Here’s the first one, but I’ve painted up four of them now and I really enjoy the color combination. In particular I love the boney look of their faces, and all the frilly things that might be feathers?
Finally, the Slann Starpriest. I really love the model, though I don’t know if I love my execution of him. The colors are a little too saturated for me–which isn’t a huge problem because lizards are bright and multicolored–but I think his bright orange clashes a little too much with the leaves he’s sitting on. And try as I might I couldn’t get anything done with that skull.
Anyway, that’s what I’ve been up to. If you’re wondering why I haven’t posted about all the Warhammer Fest reveals, that’s coming. I’ve just been busy this week.
