I have been painting everyday in accordance with the Hobby Streak, but I have been very bad about posting my progress. This has been in part because I have been in-between projects, and in part because I’ve not wanted to post pictures of things until they’re done. I KNOW this is against the point of the hobby streak, and I’m terrible, but that’s how it’s been. I’ve been painting a lot of A Song of Ice and Fire, waiting until I could post a review (which I finally did) and I’ve been painting a lot of Conquest: The Last Argument of Kings until I could post a review (which I haven’t, but I wrote a post about it.)
In the meantime, I have been keeping myself busy with a couple of other projects.
Squats Prospectors
The first one is the Squats Prospectors (Buy from Element Games) from Necromunda, and if you’ve been paying attention to my 30 year Squat obsession (see here and here and here) then you can be assured that I was absolutely going to but Squats. In fact, in addition to this first box of Squats I have bought a second box, and am playing with color schemes. I don’t play Necromunda, and don’t have any plans to start, but these models were simply too good to pass up. They were a joy to paint, and they look great.
Corsairs Voidscarred
My second project was painting the Aeldari Corsairs Voidscarred, the Aeldari Kill Team expansion (Buy from Amazon) (Buy from Element Games). I am really loving buying the special Kill Team boxes (such as the T’au Pathfinders (Amazon) (Element Games) and the Sisters of Battle Novitiates (Amazon) (Element Games) and the Death Korps of Krieg–or Veteran Guardsmen (Amazon) (Element Games) as they’re called). These are, I am surprised to say, the very first Aeldari anything that I have ever painted, but they turned out really well (thanks in large part to the new line of Contrast paints and shades–they’re bodies were done in Kroxigor Scales and the white of their helmets and guns were painted with Mortarion Grime).
Wraithguard
And, I was enjoying the Aeldari a lot and someone was unloading a box of Wraithguard (Amazon) (Element Games) for a really good deal so I picked them up. I don’t know what I’m going to do with them, but they turned out pretty well, although I wish the orange on their heads was a little more saturated. Also, on both Aeldari units here I used Martian Ironearth to base them and I don’t really love it. It’s fine, but it’s not amazing. (I never know when I’m at the game store buying paint which one is the chunky, gritty basing material and which one is the thin, crackle-paint basing material.)
Still, happy to have them done. In the future I plan to finish the second round of Squats, and I have a BIG backlog of Conquest: The Last Argument of Kings to get painted.
