So you’ll recall from my previous diorama that I have created a world in which the Mayflower was attacked by sea monsters and that the Pilgrims have become expert sea monster hunters. They have also built most of their structures from the remains of their wrecked vessels.
Also, the Indians that the Pilgrims meet, and have their first Thanksgiving with, have acheived a high level of technology and, in the spirit of mutual partnership, the two groups have traded information. (In my version of history, the sea-faring Pilgrims and the high-tech Indians get along just fine.)
So with that in mind, this new diorama features the prow of the Mayflower, turned up 90 degrees to become a house for Miles Standish. It is complete with a windmill made from the sails of the ship, and fitted out with high technology to generate… whatever it is that they generate with their windmill. (I don’t have all of this figured out.)
What you can’t see very well in these pictures is that the Giant Octopus is actually embedded in resin water. Have the Pilgrims lured him there to shoot and kill him and eat him for dinner? (Sea monsters were very much on the menu at the first Thanksgiving.) Or has he tried coming ashore and two desperate Pilgrims are doing what they can with their rifles to drive him off? Who can say?
Also, there’s a sheep.
I have thoroughly enjoyed working on these diorama projects. (And, it needs to be acknowledge once again that I have borrowed HEAVILY from the work of Boylei Hobby Time. You should all go watch his videos.)
Anyway, it’s been a good diversion while I’ve been waiting to sink my teeth into a new miniatures project (which MAY BE buying another copy of Horus Heresy Age of Darkness and painting a bunch of Word Bearers??)
I still feel like I have several more Pilgrim/sea monster dioramas in me. So you can expect more of them in the future, though maybe not at so quick a pace.
